Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — An Ypsilanti man charged in a deadly stabbing near Jackson is now heading to trial.

34-year-old Richard Brewer has been bound over to circuit court after waiving his preliminary exam last Friday. That move sends his case forward without prosecutors having to present initial evidence in court.

Brewer is accused of killing 42-year-old Nathan Cebulsky, who was found with multiple stab wounds in the early morning hours of July 8 on East Michigan Avenue in Leoni Township. Police say Cebulsky died at the scene.

Brewer faces charges including open murder, home invasion, and interfering with electronic communications causing death. That murder charge gives a jury the option to decide the degree — first or second — which could mean life in prison for Brewer if he’s convicted.

He was arrested later that day in Ann Arbor and remains in the Jackson County Jail with no bond. The case is now assigned to Judge Thomas Wilson in Jackson County Circuit Court.
