From the Jackson YMCA:
JACKSON, Mich. – June 18, 2024 — The Jackson YMCA’s annual summer camp is taking place this year at St. John School (405 E. North St., Jackson) due to the ongoing construction of the new, transformative YMCA on Wesley Street.
“We still have openings for summer camp. We encourage parents to sign up their children for what promises to be an experience that incorporates fun, fitness and friendship,” said Megan Hunt, executive program director for the Jackson YMCA. Parents or guardians can enroll children ages 4 to 12 by calling the YMCA at 517-782-0537 or by stopping by the YMCA (entrance on Franklin St.)
“We are excited to partner with St. John School. While this is a change for this year from our usual location, it brings many exciting benefits,” said Shawna Tello, chief executive officer for the Jackson YMCA. Those benefits include a State-licensed day camp providing easy access for pick-up and drop-off, a central location, and plenty of green space for healthy outdoor activities.
St. John School also includes a gym, cafeteria, and playground exclusively for our campers’ use. Each camp group has its own classroom, providing a home base for each age group.
“We are thilled to be partnering with the Jackson YMCA for their summer camp program,” said Kelli Shuberg, Jackson Catholic Schools’ director of public relations. “When we build community together, we build a network of relationships that has a lasting, positive impact on participating children, staff, parents and the greater Jackson community.”
The Jackson YMCA camp schedule is packed with fun activities. Campers will still enjoy pool time and rock climbing at the YMCA between 1-4 PM, and will venture out to explore parks, lakes, zoos, museums, aquariums, and more at various Michigan locations.
The Jackson YMCA summer camp experience is focused on learning skills, developing character, and making friends. Few environments are as special as camp, where kids see what they can accomplish, learn and master skills, and feel like they belong. Every new experience at day camp is a chance for kids to stay active, address gaps in learning when school is not in session, and have fun.
