Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — According to the National Weather Service (NWS), light snow showers will continue today with only up to a half an inch expected. Falling temperatures will continue with gusty westerly winds as high 25 mph. A weather system will move in tonight bringing increased snowfall along with Hazardous travel tonight into Tuesday with cold temperatures that will make salt less effective.

Cold temperatures (below +20F) will remain in place through Tuesday night. Lake effect snow will increase in coverage and intensity tonight lasting into Tuesday. The combination of cold and snow will create hazardous travel. Salt is less effective at these temperatures so slippery conditions will be common, especially along and west of Highway 131.

Jackson County is under a winter weather advisory from 7 p.m. this evening (January 13) through 7 p.m. Tuesday, January 14. Total snow accumulations are expected to be between 1 and 4 inches. These conditions could impact the Tuesday morning and evening commutes.

Visibility can vary greatly and salt is less effective in colder conditions, so be sure to slow down and use caution when traveling.
