The Art Van Furniture liquidation sale at the Warren, Michigan location was so crowded and chaotic that police ordered the store to close early, Saturday.

The overly crowded and under-staffed store was shut down at 4PM. “We could come close to a riot. I’ve never seen anything this bad”, said Warren Mayor Jim Fouts.

Instances of fights were reported before the closure, as well as traffic jams in the area as customers attempted to enter the store.

The Warren-based Art Van announced that it is closing all 190 of its locations. Friday was the first day of liquidation.
