As reported on WKHM earlier this week, Jackson Mayor Daniel Mahoney called a special council session Tuesday night because the only person to file to run in the upcoming Fifth Ward special election was the current interim, Shalanda Hunt. Her filing was rejected due to some sort of error or misfiling. Now council, per city charter, has put forth some names for the seat and Hunt is out of the running.
Council has nominated four candidates and two of those have some issues that need to be resolved by Thursday, May 2nd at 5pm.
Greg O’ Connor spoke with Mayor Mahoney about this bizarre situation during the regular Wednesday morning conversation with the mayor only this time Mayor Mahoney was in his car speaking with GOC rather than in the studio like he usually is. Here is part of the conversation about the situation.
