March’s Good Things Going Teacher of the Month was awarded to Bryan Mangiavellano (Man-ga-va-lano), Director of Bands at Northwest High School. Bryan, a Michigan State graduate, has spent his entire professional career at Northwest and is responsible for all things music. Bryan’s passion for his students and music shines each day as he takes a positive approach, especially through the difficulty of incorporating a virtual component over the past year to his students.

Quinatzin (Quin-nat-zin), a sophomore at Northwest High School says Mangiavellano pushes him to become a better person and musician. “Mr. M has always taught me to not settle for the bare minimum. He’s always taught me to go forth and push myself beyond my limits.” Students like “Q”, as he is called by his peers, were vocal in their appreciation for Mangiavellano’s energy and passion he brings to the classroom, whether it be virtual or in-person. Dusti, another sophomore student in Northwest’s music program reflects on the times when students were required to be virtual and how Mangiavellano kept them engaged. “When we were virtual, Mr. M would make jokes and stay positive the entire time.” She stated. “He makes us feel a part of a family.”

Bryan is the third educator selected as Good Things Going Teacher of the Month program, a new program made possible by the Walton Insurance Group. “We know teachers go above and beyond every day for their students. This program helps our community recognize and celebrate educators for all they do.” Said Stuart Kail, Director of Community Outreach and Marketing at the Walton Insurance Group. “We feel honored to be able to share their story with our community.”

In partnership with WKHM, the Good Things Going Teacher of the Month will be released on the Greg O’Conner Morning Show the first Thursday of the month and a video that is produced will be available on Good Things Going’s Facebook and Instagram page later that day at 11AM.
