The Jackson County Veterans Council invites everyone to attend this year’s Veterans Day observance. The ceremony will occur at 11 AM at Withington Park located at the west end of downtown Jackson.

The ceremony will honor Jackson area veterans. Additionally, awards will be presented for the Jackson County Veteran of the Year, Jackson County Veterans Service Organization of the Year, and the Charles Heim Award will be presented to a non-veteran (individual or group) who has demonstrated their strong support for area veterans.

As Veterans Day falls on a Saturday this year, this would be a perfect opportunity for parents to present their kids with a patriotic activity.

Veterans Day began with the end of World War I. The cessation of hostilities was declared to begin at 11 AM on November 11, 1918. This was the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month. The day was originally celebrated as Armistice Day. It became a federal holiday in 1938. The day was renamed as Veterans Day in 1954 in the wake of World War II and Korea to better recognize the veterans of all wars.

The Jackson County Veterans Council is pleased to honor every veteran of the US military at this years observance.
