Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson Police Department (JPD) is investigating vandalism that took place at Ella Sharp Park Golf Course the weekend of Friday, June 9.

“Trump,” “MAGA,” and other phrases were burned into greens, turf and fairways near eight holes of the 18-hole golf course, according to a press release from the City of Jackson. JPD is investigating the incident and believes the suspects used a liquid chemical substance to write their messages in the grass, which resulted in over $10,000 in damage.

Parks and Recreation Director Kelli Hoover says paying to repair the vandalism means less funding for parks, trails and recreation programs. “It’s important for residents to realize that when our facilities are vandalized, it hurts the entire community,” Hoover said. “Vandalism has been increasing in our parks and it’s upsetting to continually cleanup.”
