Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson Public Schools and East Jackson Community Schools announced closures for Friday, Feb. 7, after staff received reports of a potential school shooting. East Jackson Superintendent Jeff Punches said the threat surfaced shortly after school let out Thursday. As a result, Saturday’s Snowfest basketball game and dance are postponed.
Early this morning, Jackson Public Schools also shut down as a precaution. Superintendent Jeff Beal said police worked through the night but couldn’t confirm the schools were safe, adding that all threats are taken seriously until proven otherwise.
Officials stress that many threats turn out to be false, but the closures allow time for a full investigation. More updates are expected later today.
