The Jackson County Animal Shelter on Spring Arbor Road took in two Great Danes on Saturday night, with their journey to get to the shelter being anything but ordinary. It began with the shelter receiving a call that sent them into action. Shelter Director Lydia Sattler told WKHM how the ball got rolling.
The dogs relied on a neighbor for food and water, but were otherwise being left alone in the house. After the call, the shelter got to work on the logistical work to get the Great Danes from Mississippi all the way up to Jackson, Michigan. From a call from New York, to visiting a veterinarian in Mississippi, followed by a volunteer-led pickup in Alabama, and a long van ride up to Michigan, the dogs had finally reached their destination.
Despite what they had been through not just that in that day alone, but for the past month and a half, the dogs arrived at the shelter seemingly without a negative thought in the world.
These truly Great Danes will be put up for adoption, with the added perk of potential owners being able to give them their first ever names. Any questions regarding the adoption of the dogs can be made by contacting or visiting the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
