Lansing, Mich. — Distracted driving laws in Michigan are taking a step forward. The State Senate has approved three bills that prohibit drivers from holding their phones will driving.
Currently, drivers aren’t allowed to text and drive, but the new legislation will make it illegal to make or take a call, text, go on social media or record a video unless the phone is mounted.
Drivers are allowed to make calls to report a crime or accident. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to sign the legislation.
