A package of bills focused on education in the state of Michigan was recently introduced to the House. State Representative Kathy Schmaltz was on AM Jackson this past Friday discussing how one of the bills would require schools to regularly update their safety plans.

Schmaltz told WKHM the package also aims to find creative ways for schools to help themselves navigate a teacher shortage.

The House also recently passed a bill that eliminates sales and use taxes on purchases of gun safety devices. Rep. Schmaltz gave her thoughts on the bill:
