Legislation is being discussed by lawmakers in Lansing that would outlaw restrictions on returning bottles and cans to businesses. The returnable rates for bottles and cans are down since 2019. Then, Michigan’s recyclable rate for returns was 89%, in 2022 it was down to 75%. Legislation is now being considered that would require bottle return locations to keep their facilities open during unusual operating hours, or for those who are open late to keep hours no less than 8a.m. to 11p.m.
