Jackson High School was briefly placed on lockdown today after two shots were fired from across the street near the area of the Renaissance Apartments, which struck the school. No students or staff were injured in the incident, and the lockdown was lifted at approximately 2:15pm; after police had given the all-clear. Additionally, the Jackson Police Department assisted with the dismissal of the students, which took place with no issues. Due to this incident, ALL Jackson Public Schools are closed tomorrow, April 20th. All extra-curricular activities WILL take place as scheduled.
Jackson Public Schools has partnered with MDHHS and their Crisis Intervention Stress Management Team to provide counseling for Jackson High School staff and students from the affected classrooms tomorrow. The counselors will be returning when school resumes on Monday, April 23rd.
