Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A year-long construction project at Loomis Park is now complete, giving families a brand new playground to enjoy – and more.

This project, according to the City of Jackson, has reshaped the north side of the park, which is tucked between the streets of E. Ganson, E. Michigan Ave., Edgewood St. and Gilbert St. Visitors can take in the new landscaping, walking path, exercise equipment, new playground, pavilion, and entrance to the Boos Recreation Center located at the park.

$1 million in federal funds was allocated by City Council for this project.

The City says the previous wood play structure at the park required constant maintenance and was becoming unsafe to use. The new play structure is made with durable materials and is accessible to those with disabilities. There is also more lighting and increased visibility for safety.

“These updates improve quality of life for everyone in the community and helps make Jackson a more attractive place to live,” comments Parks and Recreation Director Kelli Hoover.

A ribbon cutting event to officially open the park is planned for Friday, June 9 at 12 p.m. All residents are welcome to attend.
