Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Consumers Energy says they have finished restoring power to nearly all customers who impacted by Wednesday’s storms and are preparing for another round of severe storms that are expected to hit mid-Michigan Friday night through early Saturday morning. Some of these storms, according to the National Weather Service, may include heavy rain, hail, and strong wind gusts, resulting in possible power outages and other hazards.

Consumers Energy says its customers can visit consumersenergy.com/outagecenter to view outage maps or make an outage report, or sign up to receive power restoration updates.

The energy provider offers the following storm preparation and safety tips:

  • Charge all electronic devices. Have an emergency battery or charging station available for use during an outage.
  • Have an emergency kit that includes flashlights and extra batteries, water, canned food and blankets. Be prepared with enough medication, baby supplies and pet food if applicable. A battery-operated radio is also a good idea.
  • Unplug sensitive electronics like TVs, computers, and printers, and turn power strips off.
  • Stay at least 25 feet from downed wires, keep children or pets away, and report the issue by calling 911 and Consumers Energy at 800-477-5050.
  • Portable generators should be placed at least 25 feet away from any doors, windows, or fresh air intakes. Never operate a generator inside your home, garage, basement, or enclosed area. Proper ventilation is critical.
  • Be alert and give crews working along roads proper space. Slow down and safely pass them when oncoming traffic clears.
