One person is dead following an early morning house fire in Jackson.

Jackson Assistant Fire Chief Tim Gonzales says crews responded around 2:30 a.m. Monday to a home on North Forbes Street near North Horton Street. When firefighters arrived, flames were pouring from the front of the house. One person had made it outside, but a second was trapped inside.

Authorities say the victims are believed to be an elderly couple.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Michigan State Police are looking into it, but officials say there are no signs of arson.
