The average price this week for a gallon of gas nationwide is $3.91. That’s up 12 cents from last week.
In Michigan, your average price for a gallon of gas is $4.35, according to the latest data from AAA.
In an article published by AAA entitled “Rising Demand and Cost of Oil Reflected in Higher Pump Prices”, the insurance company ranked the Top 10 Most Expensive Gas Markets, and the Mitten State made the list.
- California ($6.33)
- Alaska ($5.54)
- Oregon ($5.53)
- Nevada ($5.44)
- Washington ($5.40)
- Hawaii ($5.21)
- Arizona ($4.56)
- Idaho ($4.42)
- Illinois ($4.40)
- Michigan ($4.35)
Here in Michigan, residents watched the price creep up a full 18 cents this week alone, but that isn’t even in the top ten of weekly per gallon of gas cost increases:
- Maryland (+24 cents)
- Delaware (+24 cents)
- Illinois (+24 cents)
- Ohio (+23 cents)
- Louisiana (+22 cents)
- Tennessee (+21 cents)
- Indiana (+21 cents)
- Alaska (+20 cents)
- Mississippi (+20 cents)
- North Carolina (+20 cents)
Compare today’s average prices in Michigan to last month’s and you would pay 50 cents less per gallon. A year ago, the average cost was more than a dollar less.
AAA went on to blame the increase in the cost per gallon on OPEC’s announcement last week that they would cut production by 2 million barrels per day, driving the price of a barrel over $90 for the first time in months.
