A man came home from work to find his wife severely injured and their toddler dead in suburban Detroit, Friday evening.

The woman was taken to the hospital where she is listed in serious condition. The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say that no one else appeared to be involved in the incident except for the woman and child.

Officials say that the woman has a history of mental illness. The husband is not considered a suspect.
