Jackson, Mich. (WKHM, Greg O’Connor) — A private funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 18 at the Desnoyer Funeral Home for longtime Jackson business and community leader Lynn Vermeulen, who passed away last Thursday following a battle with lymphoma at the age of 80.

A celebration of life will be held that afternoon at the Country Club of Jackson from 1:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Vermeulen was the longtime owner of Vermeulen Furniture in downtown Jackson prior to their move to West Michigan Ave. He was a legendary swimmer, All-American at Jackson High, and a national champion water-skier as well. Vermeulen was an integral part of the success of the Jackson YMCA, serving on the board for many years. He was named “Small Business Person of the Year” by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce in 2014.
