Spring Arbor, Mich. — The Kettlebell World Championships are taking place in India this week and next. WKHM checked in with Rhonda Glick, owner and operator of Kettlebell Hot Spot in Spring Arbor, while she is abroad with the International competition.
“I actually represent the United States of America with kettlebell sports through an organization called the International Union of Kettlebell Lifting,” says Glick. “I’ve been working with them since 2014, and my first journey with them was in Germany.” Glick says the goal is to eventually make it into the Olympics.
Valarie Powlowski is one of the U.S. athletes competing this year. Powlowski says one of the daunting 10-minute routines in the professional category for women is to drop a 24-kilogram bell (just over 52 pounds) between their legs, pull it up to their chest, then up over their head while jumping under it.
Glick is also certified as an International Judge, so she’ll also be judging some of the international competitions while she is there representing the U.S.
