Police in Battle Creek are on the lookout for a male suspect who assaulted two Battle Creek Central High School students last week.

According to police, officers were dispatched to the area of the school after an unknown male approached two students walking to school. The suspect attempted to lift one of the students but was unsuccessful. He then slapped the other student before fleeing the scene.

Officers initially identified a suspect based on information provided by multiple sources. That individual was arrested on separate charges the day of the incident while the investigation continued. However, officers obtained more information and determined that the individual was not involved in this incident.

Law enforcement is continuing to canvass the neighborhood for additional evidence and will be conducting extra patrols at local schools. The surrounding school districts within the county have been informed of the incident.
