Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson Public Schools is reshuffling leadership as dozens of employees take severance packages amid a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall.

At least 37 staff members, including five top administrators, are leaving under a $15,000 buyout offered by the district. Among them is Parkside’s instructional principal, Krista Jarvey, who will retire July 31 after nearly a decade in leadership. She’ll be replaced by current associate principal Bobby Bertke.

At Cascades Elementary, assistant principal Destiney Davis is stepping up to lead the school, taking over for Willie Lewis. Lewis praised Davis as a strong leader and said he’ll remain with the district in a different role.

Longtime executive assistant Michele Oxley is also departing. She called her 27 years with the district “a joy,” and looks forward to her next chapter. Sarah Ebersole will take over her role starting July 1.

The district is still working to fill several key positions, including the superintendent and athletic director, as it faces a projected $4 million deficit next school year.
