James Mitchell Kerr III was arraigned yesterday (10/24) on a number of felony charges including assault with intent to murder. Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor Kelsey Guernsey with the details.

“Defendant James Mitchell Kerr the third was arraigned on charges of assault with intent to murder assaulting resisting obstructing a police officer and a charge of felony firearm from October 24th 2024 by District Court Judge Michael Clarin. The maximum possible penalty for James Kerr’s charges of assault with intent to murder is up to life in the Michigan Department of Corrections. This incident occurred in Lyon Township on September 19th of this year when Deputy Henderson from the Jacks County Sheriff’s Department attempted to arrest the defendant on outstanding warrants.  The Defendant produced a firearm and pointed at Deputy Henderson before Deputy Hinson was able to tase the defendant. The defendant sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his hand. Michigan State Police has investigated this incident. The defendant is to appear before the district court judge Michael Clarin on November 1st of this year for probable cause conference and bond was issued in the amount of 250,000 dollars while the defendant remains detained at this time.  Please note these charges are merely accusations and the defendant is Presumed Innocent unless until proved guilty Beyond A Reasonable Doubt.”
