Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — An investigation is underway after a Michigan inmate died from a fall at a Jackson-area prison.
Authorities say 42-year-old Ervin Robinson II fell from an upper-level gallery Saturday at the Charles Egeler Reception and Guidance Center. Michigan Department of Corrections spokesperson Lucas Verran confirmed the death and said staff performed life-saving efforts until medical crews arrived. He did not release further details, citing the active investigation.
State Police, who are handling the case, have not responded to requests for comment.
Robinson was serving time for failing to pay child support. He had previously been released on parole, but returned to prison after new charges in Kent County, including drug possession and indecent exposure. His criminal history also includes car theft and aggravated stalking.
The facility has seen similar incidents in the past. In 2024 and 2020, two other inmates died after jumping from upper levels.
