Jackson, MI (WKHM) – The Jackson District Library has been chosen as one of 58 libraries from across the country as the recipient of a mini grant from the American Library Association. This ALA grant will help provide reading programs with local teens as the JDL staff will partner with the Jackson County Youth Center to take part in the “Finding Your Voice: Speaking Truth to Power” program. This program encourages discussion specifically to engage teens that face challenges. The Jackson District Library will receive a $500 stipend to work with small groups. Each teen will receive up to four theme-related books and audiobooks to keep as their own to use with the group, and will create opportunities for exploration and discussion of relevant humanities content among peers.
