Here are highlights of what happened at the July 12, 2022 Jackson City Council meeting:

-Loomis Park is getting a new playground. The City Council approved a contract to replace the wood playground structure with a modern facility, along with building a new pavilion and balancing the landscape between Ganson Street and the Boos Center. The current playground is more than 20 years old is becoming a safety hazard due to its increasingly deteriorating condition. This work will take place over the next year. Federal funds are being used to fund this project.

-Lead service line replacements are coming to E. Michigan Avenue from Cooper Street to the City Limits this summer. The City Council approved the project, which is set to have a minimal impact on traffic because only service lines are being replaced and not the water main under the road surface.

-Street and water main construction could be coming to Jackson’s northeast side. The City Council accepted an engineering report for Blakely Avenue between Elm Avenue and Pleasant Street. The next step is a hearing at the Aug. 9 meeting to discuss the need for water main and sewer replacement on this street.

-Safety improvements are coming to the intersection of S. West Avenue and W. Morrell Street. The City Council decided to move forward with a plan to install new traffic signals and signage to make the intersection more visible. The City has been looking for solutions to improve safety at the intersection after several serious vehicle crashes in this area in recent years.
