Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Heads up , Jackson residents — the city’s annual Spring Hydrant Flushing program begins Monday, April 21 and runs through May 12.

Crews with the Department of Public Works will be out weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. flushing hydrants across the City of Jackson and parts of Summit, Blackman, and Leoni Townships.

Officials say the flushing helps clean out iron and sediment from water mains to keep the system in good shape. While the water may look discolored during the process, the City says it’s still safe to drink and that the discoloration usually clears up quickly.

Residents are being advised not to do laundry during flushing in their area, and may notice lower water pressure for a short time.

A schedule and map of the flushing areas is posted on the city’s website and Facebook page, and will also be shared via CodeRED alerts.

For questions, contact the Department of Public Works or use the “Report a Concern” feature on the city’s website below.
