Jackson, Mich. (WKHM, Marc W. Daly) — Jackson is seeing fewer holiday lights this season after a string of vandalism incidents targeting downtown decorations. City officials report stolen extension cords, slashed light strands, and damaged electrical boxes have marred the festive displays.

City spokesperson Aaron Dimick says the Parks and Recreation team worked hard to repair what they could, ensuring some lights remain throughout the holidays. Despite the damage, the affected lights were older and near the end of their lifespan.

New downtown lighting could cost up to $112,000 with plans to better protect future displays. Similar vandalism has impacted light setups in neighborhood parks, forcing a reduction in those displays.

Dimick urges residents to report any vandalism they witness, emphasizing the city’s commitment to preserving the joy these lights bring to the community.
