Hanover-Horton High School has a new state champion. The Comets captured their first-ever state title in competitive cheer Friday at Central Michigan University, earning a school record 772.68 points. They edged out Pewamo-Westphalia and Sanford Meridian, while five-time defending champion Hudson finished fourth.

This win cements their place on the school’s Wall of Fame, joining championship teams in boys golf, girls and boys cross country, and volleyball.

After falling to Pewamo-Westphalia twice last month, the team brought in extra coaching help — and it paid off. Hanover-Horton took an early lead and sealed the win with a dominant final round.

Coach Sarah DuBois, who has led the program for 25 years, says she’ll be back next season, while her daughter, senior Alexyn DuBois, graduates this spring.
