This year’s Gus Macker Basketball Tournament, which returned to Jackson with fervor the last two years, has been postponed to 2021.
The tournament was scheduled for July 24-26, 2020, but health concerns surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic has forced organizers to take the year off.
“This has not been an easy decision, and we are saddened by the impact that COVID-19 has had on our world and specifically the Jackson Community,” said Kyle Liechty in a press release. “While it would be great to host a celebration of this kind in a perfect world, none of the Gus Macker #JacksonMI team and partners felt comfortable hosting an event of this magnitude, in terms of people density, contact on the courts, etc., and creating a forum that could potentially generate more harm than good as (coronavirus) slope hits a downward trajectory this summer.
The Gus Macker will not disappear, though; plans are in the works to interact with fans virtually and provide ways to give back to the community, so stay tuned.
