Effective March 24, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. and continuing through April 13th, 2020 at 11:59pm, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has signed Executive Order No. 2020-21 to temporarily suspend activities that are not necessary to sustain or protect life.
What does this mean?
Residents of the State of Michigan are ordered to stay at home or at their place of residence. All public and private gatherings of any number of people occurring among persons not part of a single household are prohibited. Individuals who must leave their home must practice social distancing as advised by the CDC and stay 6 feet apart from others.
What are the exceptions?
- Engaging in outdoor activity, including walking, hiking, running, cycling or other recreational activity
- Perform jobs as critical infrastructure workers after being so designated by their employers
- Conduct minimum basic operations as designated by their employers
- Perform necessary government activities
- Perform tasks that are necessary to their health & safety or the health & safety of their family/household members
- Obtain necessary services or supplies for themselves, their family or household members, and their vehicles
- Care for a family member or a family member’s pet in another household
- Care for minors, dependents, the elderly, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons
- Visit an individual under the care of a health care facility to the extent that facility permits
- Attend legal proceedings or hearings for essential or emergency purposes as ordered by a court
- Work or volunteer for businesses or operations that provide food, shelter, and other necessities of life
- Return home from outside the state
- Leave the state for home or residence elsewhere
- Travel between two residences in this state
According to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer as of March 23, “we currently don’t have enough beds, masks, gowns, and ventilators… My team and I are working 24/7 to secure the things we need.”
