Jackson, Mich. — The Jackson Police Department is hosting a first-ever Turkey Drive-Thru next Wednesday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Commonwealth Commerce Center, 209 E. Washington Ave., in downtown Jackson.
Jackson residents are invited to enter the Commonwealth Commerce Center parking lot using E. Wesley Street and drive around the building to the Turkey Drive-Thru site. One frozen turkey will be distributed to each vehicle from Jackson police officers while supplies last, and each turkey will come with safe cooking instructions.
The police department’s new Group Violence Intervention (GVI) Strategy is organizing this community outreach initiative. Coordinator Cheryl Ragland says, “With increasing food costs for families, we hope this will also alleviate some financial strain during the holiday season.” GVI’s goal is to get local law enforcement working together with the community on solutions to reduce gun violence in Jackson.
