Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a fatal crash Thursday night that occurred around 9pm on Lansing Avenue just south of Henry Road.

39-year-old Matthew Paul Gilchrist was driving a moped when he left the road and was thrown from the vehicle. First responders attempted life saving measures, but Gilchrist was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s investigators say they don’t believe alcohol was a factor in the fatal crash as the investigation continues.
