Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Jackson District Library (JDL) has announced that its Eastern Branch has reopened today after a $1.2 million renovation. The branch is located at 3125 E. Michigan Avenue in Jackson and had not been extensively renovated since it opened in 1987 — until now.
Improvements included interior renovations to make the library more user-friendly, lowering shelves, and adding a quiet study space. Exterior renovations included a resurfaced parking lot, updated trim, downspouts, and gutters. Jones Construction won the renovation bid back in December 2022.
“This is a project that was long overdue,” JDL Board President Jacqueline Barber said. “We’re all very happy that it has come to fruition.”
Liz Breed, JDL Library Director, says that plans are in the works to renovate all JDL branches in some capacity over the next few years, and this is one of a few that have already been done, including Brooklyn and Spring Arbor.
JDL says staff are working on planning a grand opening for the space soon.
