A suspected electrical fire early Tuesday morning has temporarily displaced a Jackson family. Firefighters responded around 1 a.m. to a home on the 400 block of Orange Street, where smoke was seen coming from the basement.

Jackson Fire Captain Ryan Hendricks says crews quickly extinguished the fire, but utilities to the house, including water and electricity, were shut off as a precaution. This has left four adults and two children unable to stay in the home for now.

While the fire caused no visible damage and no injuries were reported, the water supply was also turned off to prevent freezing pipes.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Fire departments from Summit Township and Blackman-Leoni Township assisted at the scene.
