A dispute over grass damage and a botched DoorDash order led to a shooting in Leoni Township, according to testimony heard Wednesday in Jackson County District Court.

Maryssa Williams recounted how she was shot outside her Rosewood Avenue home on December 26. She testified that delivery driver Savannah Arrington ignored instructions not to park on the grass, tearing up the lawn. A confrontation escalated when Arrington allegedly returned to the home after Williams’ boyfriend followed her to get her license plate.

Williams said Arrington waved a gun, yelled threats, and fired as she turned to leave. Williams was struck under the ribs but survived.

Arrington, 22, is charged with assault with intent to murder and firearm offenses. As a habitual offender, she faces at least 27 years if convicted. Defense attorney David Jones questioned Williams’ calmness during the exchange, referencing a heated call she made to DoorDash prior to the shooting.

Detectives identified Arrington using photos, license plate cameras, and DoorDash records, discovering she was using someone else’s account to deliver. Arrington has a prior criminal record. She remains jailed on a $250,000 bond as the case moves to Circuit Court.
