A county jail in suburban Detroit is replacing traditional postal mail for inmates with specialized digital tablets as a means of preventing contraband from entering the facility through mail.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is working with Florida-based company Smart Communications who provided the tablets. The company screens and scans incoming postal mail which inmates can view on the digital tablet.
