Consumers Energy has announced the completion of the Mid-Michigan Pipeline, a natural gas transmission line replacement spanning 55 miles across Clinton, Shiawassee, Ingham, Livingston, and Washtenaw counties.

This project is part of a larger infrastructure modernization effort by the company, totaling nearly $1.5 billion in investments to update Michigan’s natural gas delivery systems. The Mid-Michigan Pipeline replaces older 20-inch pipeline sections dating back to the 1940s with a new 36-inch pipeline. Consumers Energy says this upgrade aims to support safe and reliable natural gas distribution for Michigan households and businesses.

David Hicks, vice president at Consumers Energy, stated that the project aligns with the company’s commitment to safely meeting Michigan’s heating needs through its Natural Gas Delivery Plan.

The Mid-Michigan Pipeline project builds on previous infrastructure updates, including the Saginaw Trail Pipeline, completed in 2020, and the South Oakland Macomb Network, finished in 2022.
