Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — Jackson’s efforts to replace lead service lines are ramping up in 2025. Last year, 379 lines were replaced — more than triple the number from 2023. The city also says they reached a major milestone in 2024, surpassing 1,000 total replacements since work began in 2018.
With more than 10,000 lines still to go, the Department of Public Works (DPW) is urging residents to cooperate with crews when contacted. The replacements come at no extra cost, funded through water and sewer rates along with federal funds.
The City says the project ensures compliance with Michigan guidelines and does not indicate a widespread lead issue in Jackson’s water. Service lines, which connect homes to the water main, continue to be replaced through street construction and public works projects.
