(CINCINNATI) — Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will be ready to go when the team opens up the 2021 season against the Minnesota Vikings in September, Dr. Neal ElAttrache said Tuesday.
“He’s on track for full go for start of the season,” ElAttrache told ESPN in a text message. “He’s doing all the work. He’s worked his tail off and been an amazingly mature participant in his recovery.”
Burrow had said that he hoped to be ready for the start of the 2021 season after tearing his ACL last year and undergoing reconstructive left knee surgery.
Doctors do not want Burrow to take any contact until nine months after the surgery, which could mean Burrow would sit out the preseason schedule.
“We are very happy with his recovery to say the least,” ElAttrache said. “Notwithstanding the nature of his injury and the extent of his reconstruction, his knee if performing perfectly.”
Burrow had impressed as a rookie prior to the injury, passing for 2,688 yards and 13 touchdowns in ten games as a rookie. He was the top overall draft pick in 2019, coming off of a record-setting senior year at LSU.
