Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — The Annual Jackson Crime Victims’ Rights Candle Light Vigil was held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Church on Tuesday evening. Those who attended were able to have a candle lit and said the name of a remembered loved one lost to violent crime. Forget-Me-Not flower seeds were also given to guests. The Vigil featured prayer from Father Tim MacDonald, as well as comments from Jackson County Prosecutor Kelsey Guernsey, who told WKHM that these are important to provide for those who tragically find similarity in their grief.

Alex Davis, the widow of Jackson County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Davis who was killed in a car crash in May of 2024, also spoke at the Vigil. Davis spoke about how the grief process has no timetable, and that her relationship with the Lord was crucial in helping her.

Kristy Conley with the Jackson County Crime Victims’ Rights Unit says the togetherness the Vigil brings is one of its best features.

Prosecutor Guernsey spoke with WKHM about how her experience with the Vigil motivates her to use her position as Prosecutor to protect the community and seek justice for victims.
