Jonesville, Mich. (WKHM, Marc W. Daly) — A bomb threat targeting Jonesville High School in Hillsdale County was determined to be a hoax after an investigation by police and school officials. The high school was closed Tuesday, December 10, after the threat was discovered early Monday morning as buses were preparing to pick up students.
Superintendent Erik Weatherwax reported that the threat, which began circulating online, prompted immediate action in collaboration with Jonesville Police. The Michigan State Police were also called in to assist, including deploying a bomb-sniffing dog to the school as a precaution.
Efforts to identify the source of the threat are ongoing, with the district working alongside its IT team and an outside security firm to trace the IP address of the online post.
Evening school activities are still scheduled to take place, and students attending the Hillsdale Area Career Center are encouraged to go, though transportation from Jonesville schools will not be provided.
