State Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey has weighed in on the city’s lead pipe dilemma. Shirkey sent a letter to city officials offering full support from area lawmakers to help the city work its way through the replacement. Shirkey’s thinking is to take things with caution, there’s no rush.

Consumers Energy vice president of public affairs Roger Curtis was also on WKHM Tuesday morning as a spokesman for the recently formed Coalition for Clean and Affordable Water, and voiced the concerns of his group.

Curtis was not prepared to address the Consumers lawsuit against the city for raising its water rates.

The city issued a statement Monday refuting claims made in a press release by the coalition, saying the release contained misinformation, unofficial figures and unverified statistics.
