Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A Spring Arbor couple has returned home after spending around a month in a Mexican prison. US Representative Tom Barrett announced the return of Paul and Christy Akeo Thursday night. They were arrested on March 4th in Cancun and accused of committing fraud against Palace Resorts to the total of more than $116,000 dollars by breaching a timeshare contract via disputing credit card charges. Rep. Barrett met with the couple in Mexico, writing on social media that their conditions in the prison were horrible. The Akeos and Rep. Barrett say they are no longer facing charges and the case against them has been dropped. The couple were approved to be released during a court hearing on Thursday. Before that point, Palace Resorts had been given six months to present evidence against the Akeos.
