If you live in Michigan, there is a pretty good chance you were born here. New numbers from the Census Bureau show more than 76% of Michiganders were born in the state. That is second to only Louisiana, where nearly 78% of residents who were born in the state still live there. Demographer Kurt Metzger of Data Driven Detroit says Michigan needs to do a better job of attracting people from other states and other countries because you cannot grow your population or the economy without new people coming in. Metzger says we are having trouble filling jobs in Michigan because we have an aging population and we are not replacing our younger workers.
