Jackson, Mich. — The City of Jackson has announced that it continues to be Michigan’s “clean energy capital” for the fourth consecutive year after the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed it has more ENERGY STAR-certified buildings than any small city in the nation.

The EPA gave ENERGY STAR certifications to 41 buildings in Jackson last year, more than any other community of its size across the country. Buildings can receive this special certification when they take certain measures to reduce energy waste and receive an ENERGY STAR score based on those actions.

“The City of Jackson is thrilled to have this honor,” said City Manager Jonathan Greene. “Work is ongoing in our City government to make sure more buildings are energy-efficient and we build green infrastructure. This really reflects the close collaboration Consumers Energy has with our community businesses and organizations.”
