Chair of the Jackson County Board of Commission Chair Steve Shotwell recently appeared on AM Jackson with Greg O’Connor recently and shared that the County will be adding some full time positions to the Jackson County Department of Transportation.
“Over the years eight supervisory positions, people (have) retire and we filled those slots with hourly employees. They were learning the job, getting in place operationally and understanding everything that has to be done across the whole county” Chairman Shotwell explained “Now the managing director of JCDOT has put forward the plan that we name these eight people into these supervisory roles and make them salaried employees”.
A full time JCDOT employee can put in as much as 60 hours a week, but in the winter those on salary can use flex time to even things out. Shotwell shared that this will allow the County more freedom for high priority projects, such as “if Leoni Township passes its millage for roads, because it will give us eight people to move back and forth with vacations”.
