The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is over 70 years old and according to County Commission Chair Steve Shotwell, the building has some real shortcomings. “The question is what we have to do. What is needed and what is wanted is usually two different things.”
Shotwell went on to say that rehab would be very costly, but replacement would be just as expensive.
For the last six months the County Commission has studied what is needed, with help from Sheriff Gary Shuette and the City of Jackson Police Department. The board will meet with architects and others involved in putting together a recommendation with a goal of passing a resolution prior to the August Board of Commissioners study session.
