Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Grand Rapids police department has released video that shows an officer shooting and killing Patrick Lyoya last week. Police say there are a total of nine video files, including from a dashboard camera, body camera video, home surveillance system, and cell phone.
It includes graphic images and strong language. While some images were blurred for privacy reasons, they say none of what happened has been edited out. Video shows a police officer kneeling on the back of a black man before fatally shooting him. Chief Eric Winstrom noted that the investigation is still in its early stages with many factors to consider, and at this point, he is not prepared to make a determination about whether the officer was justified or followed department policy.
